About the CRAL

The CRAL’s mission is to advance technology for radio astronomy, in particular low noise amplifiers based on semiconductor HEMTs. Improving this technology also has benefits for Earth and planetary sciences, quantum computing and mm-wave imaging (e.g. airport security). CRAL partners include Applied Physics at Caltech, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory’s Central Development Labs (NRAO CDL) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Funding for the CRAL has come from the National Science Foundation, the Keck Institute for Space Studies, JPL RTD, NRAO and NIST.
